Tony Jacklin to develop Moroccan golf resort

Jacklin Design Group, led by Tony Jacklin CBE, is to design a brand new 18-hole golf course and a 9-hole par-3 course, in Marrakech, Morocco.

Jacklin recently signed a contract with clients Prestigia to build the courses at the Argan Golf Resort in partnership with fellow golf course architects, Martin and Stirling.

Around 70 hectares of land has been set aside for the golf courses at the 220 hectare resort, which is situated just five minutes from the famous Mohammed VI Boulevard in Marrakech and the city’s famous tourist attractions.

The golf course is scheduled to open between spring and summer of 2013.

Marrakech is hot-spot for golf development
It is great news for golf tourism in Morocco and follows news that another new course is in development at The Marrakech Golf Club in Assoufid, set against the backdrop of the snow capped Atlas Mountains.

Former U.S Open Champion Tony Jacklin, CEO, Jacklin Design Group, said: “We are really excited about the Argan Resort. We have designed the course in a desert style to minimize water consumption and have used plants and fauna that are indigenous to the area.

The fabulous views of the Atlas Mountains provide the golfer with a stunning backdrop; this will undoubtedly provide players of all abilities with an experience to remember.”

The resort will feature a five star hotel, villas, apartments, private villa opportunities and a Polo Club. Plans are also in place for a purpose built golf academy.

“The Argan Resort is a fantastic site. The resort is located close to both the cultural city of Marrakech and the International airport. Golfers will also have the opportunity to play multiple courses during their stay at Argan, making the region an ideal destination for golf tourism,” said Oliver Dury, Group Commercial Director.

The developers Prestigia say the development will be one of the most picturesque in the world and that golfers will be able to enjoy the benefits of playing year round in Morocco’s warm climate.
