Ramside Hall Hotel and Golf Club, one of Northern England’s leading golf resorts, has announced plans to build a new 18-hole championship golf course and spa and expand its hotel in 2012.
The 27-hole golf resort and four star hotel is situated on the outskirts of historic Durham City and is one of the most accessible golf resorts in Northern England just off the A1M motorway corridor.
Ramside Hall Estates director, John Adamson, said: “We are pressing ahead with plans to give County Durham a first-class golf resort that it can be proud of.
Ramside is already considered among the finest golf destinations in the North of England and by expanding the hotel and creating a new course we are polishing our golfing diamond.”
The course, which is to be designed by Gaunt Golf Design, is the only new development planned for completion in England at the present time.
Golf Course Architect Jonathan Gaunt built the original 27 holes at Ramside Hall which opened in 1996.
To create the new course Gaunt will revamp four of the existing Cathedral course holes and add 14 new holes on former agricultural land.
Work is set to begin in January and the course will measure more than 7,200 yards from the back tees, have a par of 72, and be made up of four par 5’s, five par 3’s and nine par 4’s.
Water to play dramatic role in new course
Ramside’s current signature hole is its 15th called “Aad Sneaky,” a dramatic intimidating par three measuring over 200 yards. The golfer hits over water to a slim sloping green surrounded by whin bushes and out of bounds right.
The owners say water will again be an exciting and thrilling part of the Ramside experience.
John Adamson, said: “In 1996, we built 15 manmade water features and worked with over 50,000 planted trees to create our championship golf course. This new course will be bigger, better and every bit as exciting to play.
The golfer will have to hit over and around water more than 20 times in the round, most dramatically at the par-3 12th hole – which will be completely encircled by water hazards.”
The hotel expansion will begin late in 2012 with 48 new bedrooms set to be built. The leisure centre will feature a gymnasium, 25-meter swimming pool, cardio cycling studio, spa with 12 treatment rooms and a restaurant and café.
The development includes 34 executive houses in secluded and picturesque locations bordering the golf course.
