Congratulations to Martin Seccombe from Derby, England.
Martin’s name was drawn from the hat to win a fourball worth £400 at Close House Golf Club – one of the most exclusive new golf destinations in the North of England.
Close House Golf Club opened its new Colt Course in 2011 in beautiful Northumbrian countryside near Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Play the course Lee plays
Lee Westwood is the resort’s attached touring professional on the world golf circuit and recently opened his own golf academy at the 36-hole golf resort and hotel.
Designed by Scott Macpherson of TM Golf Design, the Colt course is modelled on the philosophy of famous English architect Harry Colt and has panoramic views of the TyneValley.
Situated close to UNESCO World Heritage site Hadrian’s Wall – a monument to the Roman Empire’s time in Britain– the Colt is MacPherson’s tribute to the remarkable contribution of Harry S. Colt, whose design career included work at Wentworth, St George’s Hill, Muirfield, Ganton and Rye golf clubs.
“The ‘Colt Course’ at Close House has been a great success. The course sits on a dramatic piece of land with a large amount of ‘fall’ from the top to bottom of the course.
The routing treats the contours very gently and golfers enjoy an exciting experience as they play the course. One of the biggest successes has been that this course looks like it is already 50 years old, “said MacPherson.
The course has been laid out through a beautiful landscape dotted with old oaks, ash, and elm trees. The design of the holes brings into play old water ways, stone walls and archaeology, and is an interesting and fun place for golfers to explore.
Perfect 19th hole
The clubhouse at Close House Golf Club, called No.19, is a stunning contemporary piece of architecture with views out over the Tyne Valley.
Head Chef Simon Walsh is passionate about local Northumbrian food producers and his menu reflects this by including what’s growing in Northumberland right now, fresh and in season.
