Archerfield Links in East Lothian, Scotland, has opened a new rustic spa and luxury members’ lodges at its 36-hole golf resort near North Berwick.
The Fletcher’s Cottage Spa has a rustic theme with a thermal area, including marine steam room, rasul mud cure, private bath huts and a salt room using healing Himalayan salt bricks.
Both the spa and lodges are open to members and guests and a new ‘Time to Discover Archerfield’ package offers luxury member’s lodge accommodation, golf and spa treatments.
The new openings coincide with Archerfield’s Fidra Links being ranked among the best golf courses in the UK and Ireland by an influential international golf magazine.
The biennial Top 100 Golf Courses in Britain & Ireland, published in the latest issue of Golf World magazine, positioned the landmark East Lothian links overlooking Fidra Island and the Firth of Forth 100th out of a total of 2,989 courses.
The 6,948-yard, par-72 course, designed by European Senior Tour professional David J Russell, opened in 2004.
It combines a tree-lined front nine with a classic, open links challenge on the return, and features eye-catching revetted bunkers and sloping greens.
Tom Younger, Chief Executive of Archerfield Links and Archerfield House, said:
“To be voted into Golf World’s Top 100 Courses as one of only four new entries is an honour that underlines not only the quality of the Fidra Links, but the Archerfield House estate as a whole.
“Our two golf courses and clubhouse offer a relaxed, informal and welcoming family atmosphere, while our spa, luxury accommodation, hospitality and event facilities are second to none. As we say, at Archerfield we play a different game.”
The estate’s accommodation was recently relaunched under the Archerfield House brand, offering 70 comfortable bedrooms in a variety of settings, from an exclusive sea front villa to pavilion suites attached to historic Archerfield House itself.
The ‘Time to Discover Archerfield’ package runs throughout July, August and September 2012.
The offer includes two nights’ accommodation, a round of golf for four people, plus two spa treatments, all for £1,250 (equivalent to £312.50 per person, based on four people sharing a lodge).
Lots of golf on your doorstep
East Lothian is one of Scotland’s most popular regions with visiting golfers and is marketed as Scotland’s Golf Coast, a bold claim when you think about the Fife Coast and the courses lined up along the Ayrshire Coast.
Nevertheless, East Lothian can rightfully boast a classic Open Championship course in Muirfield and a host of high class links golf courses including the East and West Links at North Berwick– home to the famous Redan par three – and three courses at Gullane Golf Club overlooking Muirfield.
Hick Hick Hurray at Musselburgh
Another famous golfing venue is the Old Links at Musselburgh, home to the World Hickory Golf Open where you can dress up in plus-fours, flat cap and play with original hickory clubs.
A more affordable alternative to the Archerfield Lodges is The Golf Inn in Gullane which has bags of character and serves a lovely pint of 80 schilling, Scotland’s best attempt at real ale.
