Preppy American apparel brand Tommy Hilfiger has launched its new spring summer 2014 golf clothing collection citing inspiration from famous US golf destinations and holiday spots.
The brand, known to many by just one word ‘Tommy,’ is best known for its vibrant preppy style and proud American heritage. Its latest offering draws on traditional American institutions like country clubs, golf clubs and yachting to create a golf wardrobe that will suit the style conscious and brave.
Tommy Hilfiger’s love affair with California
We especially liked the garments influenced by coastal golf destinations like Monterey, Northern California – home of the famous 17-mile drive – and Pebble Beach (often voted the world’s number one golf course).
Pieces include modern golf classics such as polos and sweaters rendered in a palette of tonal blues and white highlighted by light blue and turquoise accents.
Classic patterns such as nautical stripes, argyle and traditional plaids feature strongly. Bold polka dots combined with updated textures create a playful, feminine look for women.
San Fran style for golfers
Other pieces in the collection are said to be inspired by San Francisco, home to US Open venue The Olympic Club, the oldest athletic club in the USA founded in 1860.
These garments draw on the Bay area’s nautical heritage and include tailored pieces featured in a vibrant palette of red, white and royal blue.
Touches of modern black, inspired by San Francisco’s distinct architecture, ground the delivery and emphasize the sporty design. Playing on the brand’s all-American heritage, the delivery features classic stripes in a variety of widths and bold colour-blocking on polos and outerwear.
The final part of the collection is inspired by the country club lifestyle and East Hampton’s renowned prep traditions.
A crisp, sophisticated colour palette of kelly green, navy and white modernizes a classic look. Patterns are highlighted throughout, with stripes, traditional plaids and gingham covering shorts, sweaters and outerwear.
The iconic look is finished with gold-colour trim, button and zipper detailing.

The men’s collection includes approximately 100 styles with expected retail prices ranging from £50 for short-sleeved polos to £115 for sophisticated outerwear options. The versatile women’s collection includes approximately 75 styles with expected retail prices ranging from £50 for bermudas and polos to £115 for knits and outerwear.
