Club de Golf Alcanada is celebrating after readers of an influential German golf magazine voted it the best golf course in Europe for the fourth year in a row.
The Robert Trent Jones JR designed course is located on Mallorca’s Northern coastline and was voted best in Europe by readers in Golf Journal’s 2011 poll of the most popular courses outside Germany.
The award was made at ITB Berlin, the international travel exhibition which is considered to be one of the biggest travel trade shows worldwide.
Alcanada was a clear winner of the award ahead of the National Golf Club and Carya Golf Club in Belek, Turkey, and Mallorca’s Arabella Golf Son Vida with Aphrodite Hills in Cyprus finishing further down the list.
Kristoff Both, director of golf at Club de Golf Alcanada, said:
“A good golf course is characterised not only by the condition of its greens and fairways and the service given by its staff, but also by the praise given by the golfers who play the course.
“We are very proud that Alcanada has been singled out as one of Europe’s most popular golf courses for the fourth successive year by the readers of Golf Journal and are determined to maintain our high standards in the future.”
Favoured by German golfers
Mallorca is one of the most popular golf and tourism destinations worldwide with German travelers and German golfers account for a high percentage of the rounds played over Mallorca’s 30 plus golf courses each year.
Golf Son Gual near the island’s capital Palma is considered the best course in Mallorca after German business tycoon Adam Pamer spent more than 30 million EURO developing a stunning championship course with vast bunkering, man-made lakes and a vast amount of teeing ground with an Italian Style Palazzio for a clubhouse.
Alcanada is among the best in Mallorca
Golf Son Gual is easily Mallorca’s most expensive tee-time, but having played almost every golf course on the island with the exception of Golf Maioris and Park de Puntiro, Global Golfer would agree that Alcanada is among the top-3 places to tee it up on this Balearic Isle.
Alcanada’s 18-hole championship course opened in 2003 and was created in a breathtaking location overlooking the Bay of Alcudia

The lighthouse at Alcanada is also an iconic feature which sets the club apart from many other courses on the island.
It is a focal point for golfers playing the course and the subject of many great photographs.
Alcanada’s opening hole is a great par-five with a second shot played over a gaping gorge.
It’s an exciting opening to a course with lots of elevation changes and sweep down to the coast, as well as some of the best greens in Mallorca and probably all of Spain.
Global Golfer’s comprehensive Mallorca pages carry reviews of more than 25 of the island’s golf courses and are an excellent resource for anyone considering a Mallorca golf break.
