A new partnership between club rental firm ClubstoHire.com and car hire website ArgusCarHire.com is making it easier for golfers to hire clubs and drive off when taking European golf holidays.

Anybody booking car hire through ArgusCarHire.com – for destinations with a ClubstoHire.com service – can now book golf clubs at the same time.

ClubstoHire director, Tony Judge, said: “The booking engine technology behind ArgusCarHire.com is not just for car-rental businesses; it’s an ancillary revenue stream for the entire travel industry and it affords us an outstanding opportunity to expand our existing customer base.

“What’s more, Argus Car Hire’s multi-national footprint will enable it to work with us wherever we expand to – and we plan on opening several more stores in 2012 alone.”

Dublin-based ArgusCarHire.com connects customers with more than 550 car rental brands at 30,000 locations in 171 different countries.

It uses booking engine technology developed by CarTrawler and the system enables partners to sell car rental as well as its core product, or simply as a stand-alone service.

ClubstoHire.com was set up by Ryder Cup player and European Tour professional Paul McGinley.

Following rapid growth in its first two years of trading, the online club hire service is set to expand again by opening in Lisbon and the Isle of Man.

The new stores will take the number of outlets up to nine – joining those at Antalya, Alicante, Murcia, Dublin, Malaga, Edinburgh and Faro.

Further outlets will open in Gran Canaria and Tenerife in the next few weeks with US-based stores likely to follow before the end of the year.

Judge added: “We will continue to look for ideal venues to open stores as we realistically believe that we will double our turnover during 2012 and will save travelling golfers a staggering €1,000,000 on excess baggage charges during the calendar year.”

Global Golfer has previously reported on Ryanair’s decision to increase its charges for golf bags to a minimum of £50 per flight, and before the end of the last year, Air Berlin raised its golf bag carriage charge to €100 return.

The majority of European carriers are now charging upwards of £60 return for golf club carriage which make hiring clubs an appealing and economical alternative.

A broad equipment range is offered by ClubstoHire from just €35 per week.

Clubs available include TaylorMade (including the R11S driver and the new RocketBallz), Callaway, Wilson and MD Golf; all clubs are offered – left or right-handed, ladies and men’s – and hire is available from just one day to a full four weeks. For those wishing to travel extra-light, shoe hire is also available.
